Alexis

FOUNDER

Hey there everyone!

My name is Alexis and I am a 24 year old woman, born and raised in the United States. I am currently in university studying biology with an emphasis in pre med. I do want to also minor in a few languages and also get a bachelors in computer science, business, linguistics, and psychology (this might be far fetched, but if you aim for the moon, you'll land amongst the stars). I love reading, writing, learning, creating and of course having fun. Some of my favorite genres of books, movies and tv shows include, horror, thriller, scifi, kdramas, and anime. I also enjoy crocheting, knitting, drawing, and playing video games from Animal Crossing, Ghost of Tsushima to Fortnite and Apex. I love to laugh and make new friends and connections. I am always on the go, bettering myself, learning new things, creating and trying new things.

My father is from South America and of course my mother is from here. I grew up with many relatives that were born in other countries. In high school, it was a requirement to take two consecutive level language classes, but my school only offered spanish and french and I chose spanish. I decided to take all four years in spanish because I thought it was better for me to find careers and become smarter since learning a second language accesses a different part of the brain. I didn't enjoy learning spanish, it was basic. It is consided the second language of the United States. It wasn't until I moved to New Mexico and wanted to take it seriously. I moved again, and am now attending a college that offers Japanese. I started learnig Japanese already but intend to minor in that and spanish to further enhance my knowledge and fluency.

When I started learning because I genuinely enjoyed the language and cultures, I wanted to start traveling and immersing myself, and become a polyglot. I have now started getting into linguistics as well and have so many more plans and goals for my language learning goals. I want to learn Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, Sign Language for languages I already know/learnt, and of course Black Sign Language. That's when I knew I wanted to make this my living. Thats how I came up with Words to Worlds and I want you along for my polyglot journey.

My Goals

Language Proficiency

Learning multiple languages involves mastering the ability to speak, listen, read, and write fluently. It also requires understanding regional accents, idiomatic expressions, and cultural contexts.

Understanding Linguistic Structures

A deep dive into linguistic structures helps uncover how languages organize sounds, grammar, and meaning. This includes studying phonetics, syntax, and how words convey nuanced ideas across different languages.

Cultural Connection and Appreciation

Becoming a polyglot fosters meaningful connections with people from diverse cultures through their native languages. It also opens doors to exploring literature, traditions, and worldviews in their authentic form.

Theoretical and Comparative Analysis

Analyzing languages through a comparative lens reveals their historical evolution and shared patterns. This includes investigating language families and exploring the ways languages shape human thought and communication.
